When it comes to keeping your home safe and functional, your staircases play a pretty important role. You need to be able to access the different floors of your home safely, whether you are going upstairs to the second story or downstairs into the basement, and that means you need to keep your staircases in good condition. Our team at Artisan Building & Design wants to help you keep your home in the best possible condition, and to do that, we’ll be going over three signs to look for in order to determine whether you need staircase repair.

3 Signs that You Need Staircase Repair

  • Cracked Treads or Risers. One sign that you may need staircase repair is the presence of cracks on your stair treads or risers. (For those who don’t know, the treads are the area step on, while the risers are the vertical supports that keep the treads in place.) These cracks can often result from changes in humidity, but once they appear, they should be taken care of as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
  • Detached Handrail. Another indicator that you should call for staircase repairs immediately is a loose or detached handrail. Your handrails are key to keeping you and your loved ones safe while climbing stairs, but in order to do that job, they need to be properly attached to the walls or floor.
  • Water Damage. Lastly, if you notice signs of water damage on or around your stairs, we encourage you to call our team right away to get the staircase repairs you need. Left untreated, water damage will only get worse over time, so it’s best to act as soon as possible.
